Cubs are No. 2 seed at YCHS regional; MVHS in Colgan’s

The last time Yates Center High hosted a Kansas Class 2-1A Regional Baseball Tournament, Humboldt High’s Cubs won the championship. The Cubs defeated Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats for the title.
Next week, the Cubs are back in the Yates Center  regional. Marmaton Valley is not.
Marmaton Valley is seeded No. 4 in the Kansas Class 2-1A Regional Baseball Tournament hosted by Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan High School.
So it will be the Cubs and the Yates Center Wildcats going after the regional title Monday and Tuesday on Yates Center’s Kluender Field.
Humboldt goes in as the No. 2 seed at 15-5. Sedan (19-0) is the top seed in the regional. Both earned first-round byes.
Yates Center (5-15) and seeded fifth travels to No. 4 Elk Valley (6-11) Monday. The game is at 5 p.m. The winner plays Sedan at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
West Elk (11-8) is No. 3 seeded and hosts No. 6 Altoona-Midway (0-20) Monday. The winner plays Humboldt at 4:30 p.m.
The championship game is at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
In the Colgan regional, Marmaton Valley (6-12) hosts Oswego (6-12), seeded No. 5, at 5 p.m. Monday. The winner takes on top-seeded Colgan (15-3) at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
St. Paul (12-3) is seeded No. 2 and has a bye. It plays the winner of Monday’s No. 3 Jayhawk-Linn (9-10) against No. 6 Chetopa (3-15)  game at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The championship game is at 7 p.m. All games Tuesday are at Pittsburg’s Jay-cee Field.
Regional winners ad-vance to the Kansas Class 2-1A Baseball State Tournament May 27-28 in Emporia.
